Possibilities of Increasing Approaches to MENTAL

Kamil HALOUZKA

Abstract

The purpose of this article, “Possibility of increasing approach to MENTAL” is to analyse users access to the knowledge systém MENTAL, that was implemented in 2011 in an environment of Staff Information System (SIS). For this analysis was twice carried out a collection of information about users access to the SIS. Within two years, there has been a reduction in the number of visitors, and therefore the article will deal not only about the MENTAL, but also about possibilities how to increase the number of these approaches.

Visual Analytics Applied to Cyber Security

Vlastimil MALÝ

Abstract

The field of Visual Analytics (VA) seeks to combine computational power, visual display, and human capabilities in order to extract knowledge from large, heterogeneous data sets. VA is in part a response to the scale and complexity of information that is now potentially available. It seeks to aid people in making sense of the world by helping them identify and exploit relevant information. Within the field of VA we are trying to exploit and enable the considerable capabilities of the human visual perceptual process. Visual analytics techniques can be extremely helpful to addressing the potential and actual consequences of cyber attacks. Visual analytics, when applied to anomalous network behaviours, could provide a basis for a realtime indications and warnings system usable for supposed cyber incidents.
Visual Analytics arose in the post nine-eleven eras in order to provide tools to the analyst to aid in the identification of threats. It was formulated primarily by experts from the field of information visualization and emphasized visual tools for information understanding and extracting patterns.

Personal Information Management in the Cyber Defence

Oldřich LUŇÁČEK, Jaroslav ŠANDA

Abstract

The personal information management area is addressed by each of us. Any organisation or company addresses the issues of access to information. For each of us it is important to sort, organize, find, acquire and maintain information, as appropriate, among them the search of mutual respect. Information has a key role in our decision making, especially due to the fact, that the human capacity to process all of the available information is limited by the capacity and time demands.

PossibleCyberAttacksOfTheFuture

Petr HRŮZA

Abstract

Social networking is a way for people to connect and share information with each other online. Millions of people worldwide regularly access these types of services from mobile devices, applications, and websites. Mobile phones and smartphones give users mobile access to email, the internet, GPS navigation, and many other applications. Smartphone security has not kept pace with traditional computer security. Unfortunately, many smartphone users do not recognize these security shortcomings. Meanwhile, mobile phones are becoming more and more valuable as targets for attack.

Applications Based on Ontology or Database

Ladislav BUŘITA

Abstract

The article presents two approaches to the creation of applications working with information: an approach driven by o ntology or the one driven by a database. The first approach is repre sented by the application based on Knowledge Management System supporting cooperation of military universities (MilUNI) , and the second approach is introduced by the application based on Database Management System Postgres for processing the information about university science and research (IS- SID). The article presents the structure and functions of the applications. The approaches are compared, which results in stipulating their potential benefits and problems of the specific applications development.

Training of the Piecewise Linear Neural Network Used for Process Control

Petr DOLEŽEL, Martin MARIŠKA, Libor HAVLÍČEK

Abstract

This paper deals with a training of special topology of feedforward artificial neural network – artificial neural network with linear saturated activation functions in hidden neurons. This network is suitable to nonlinear processes control system design. In first paragraphs, motivation of this work is described. Then, possibilities of the training are introduced and at the end of the paper, the experiment results, which prove eligibility of the approach, are presented.

Automation of Day-to-Day Operational Processes of a Knowledge Engineer

Vojtech ONDRYHAL

Abstract

To hold a knowledge base up-to-date requires quite substantive endeavor of the knowledge engineers. The aim of the tools presented in the paper is to help the knowledge engineer with his tedious work. The first tool a2doc generates human readable documentation of an existing knowledge base. The second tool, the more complex one, creates the pieces of information from the text base and the appropriate ontology. The generated items can be then imported into the knowledge base. Both tools save time of the knowledge engineers.

Information Portal MilUNI for Military Universities Cooperation

Ladislav BUŘITA

Abstract

The paper describes the Knowledge Management System (KMS) about military universities (MilUNI), mostly in the NATO environment, but it also includes all European countries. The goal of the MilUNI is to support the cooperation among uni-versities in education, research, and the staff and students exchange. The system is based on the Topic Maps theory using the AToM software. Special attention is paid to the ontology design, Knowledge Base (KB) development, and application processing when using the KMS. The KMS includes the KB with interface for administrator, architect, and editor and the Knowledge Portal with user interface. Related work is analyzed. The search procedures in the KMS are mentioned. The pa-per concludes with suggestions for the further development of the system.

Software Support for Task Force Creation

Vlastimil Malý

Abstract

Modularity of military units’ structure contributes to the thoughtful and purposeful utilization of operational capabilities, with regard to the nature of the environment where military units are deployed. This article describes a new approach to the planning process and new possible way of selection forces for international operations based on modular structures and units’ capabilities required for particular operation. The article describes the options of original software application developed during the “STRUCTURE” project solution aiming as a support for staff officers in the preparatory phase of oper ational planning.
